HPI, in plain English.

Live HPI is a current-context research index—not WAR, a betting pick, or a promise of fantasy points. From 2026 forward, it uses role-aware official form: hitters use completed regular-season games from the rolling 14 calendar days; pitchers use up to their latest five appearances within the rolling 30 calendar days. It then applies official availability and public Statcast context. A player on the IL is paused instead of being ranked through an injury. Legacy HPI is the separate stats-only historical lens for completed seasons.

HITMAN GLOSSARY

What each board is actually telling you.

These labels describe different things. They are not interchangeable, and none replaces official MLB statistics.

HPI · 0–100The composite current-context index. It combines form, momentum, public Statcast context, availability, and sample coverage. It is the Hitman score—not a traditional baseball statistic.
Ball Flight Index · 20–80Game-hour air-density context from ballpark elevation plus linked temperature, humidity, and surface pressure. Lower density maps to a higher BFI. Roof-closed and dome games use a 50 controlled-environment baseline. It is not a home-run forecast or HPI points adjustment; wind speed is displayed but excluded without direction.
Trend Radar scoreA retained role-aware production score used to measure movement against that player’s previous snapshot. It is not on the HPI scale and should not be read as a projection.
Trend Radar rankPosition within the current tracked Hitman Top 50, based on official role-aware form windows. Hitters use 14 calendar days; pitchers use their latest five appearances within 30 calendar days. It is not a league-wide official ranking.
Confidence · 0–100How complete the current HPI input coverage is: recent completed games, active-status context, and available Statcast context. It is not the chance a player will succeed next game.
Upward Pressure · 75–100High current HPI after the active-roster gate. Positive Outlook is 55–74, Developing Signal is 35–54, and Limited Signal is 0–34. These are research labels, not predictions.
Surging / Rising / Steady / CoolingRadar movement versus the previous retained score. Surging clears two dynamic change thresholds; Rising clears one; Steady stays within the threshold; Cooling falls by at least one threshold. New means no prior snapshot exists.
Availability Watch / Pause / ILAvailability Watch means recent production is visible but official status needs monitoring. Pause / IL removes a player from the current HPI board rather than scoring through an inactive period.
Official leaders & recordsMLB season leaders, box scores, standings, and all-time records remain official-stat displays. They are presented beside HPI, not converted into HPI or replaced by it.
Legacy HPIThe completed-season, stats-only historical lens. It does not retroactively claim live weather, travel, or availability effects that were not validated in the historical model.
